Jaime is a Salvadorean BSc Food Science and Technology graduated from the Pan-American Agriculture University (Zamorano). Jaime is currently a visiting scholar at Kansas State University doing an internship in the Food and Microbiology laboratory.

Aysu Deniz

PhD Student

Aysu grew up in Ankara, Turkey. She completed her B.S and M.S in food engineering from Middle East Technical University. During her master’s she worked in Food Safety lab and her research focuses on finding an alternative method to antibiotics to prevent spread of antibiotic resistance in food supply chain. She worked on isolation and characterization of Salmonella bacteriophages. She is currently pursuing a PhD degree, studying Listeria biofilms and sanitation strategies to control them in organic produce industry.

Savannah Stewart

Savannah Stewart

PhD Student

Savannah grew up in south central Kansas and completed her B.S. in Feed Science and Management from Kansas State. After working for a commercial feed company for 2 years, she returned to K-State and completed her master’s in Animal Science, with a focus on environmental monitoring in swine production facilities and feed mills. Savannah spent time working in a virology lab and gained experience in high-containment research settings prior to joining Dr. Trinetta’s lab. She is excited to be studying biofilms and decontamination efficacy within the fresh produce food chain.

Chiara Lynn

Chiara Lynn Abou Elias

PhD Student

Chiara is a Lebanese graduate student in the Food Science program at Kansas State University. She is currently working in the Food Safety and Microbiology laboratory as a research assistant under Dr. Valentina Trinetta. Having majored in food safety and quality management at Notre Dame University in Lebanon, she is fascinated by the science behind making food safe for consumption. Chiara’s research project focuses on the antimicrobial activity of titanium dioxide to reduce microbial growth in the water of microgreen systems.
