Minors and Certificates

A minor in Animal Science can be quite beneficial to students wanting to expand their job opportunities outside of their current major. Student minoring in animal science are given significant flexibility to meet their needs. Students may choose to take courses that give them a broad general understanding of the animal sciences or they may choose to focus on a particular aspect of animal sciences ranging from courses focusing on a specific specie to courses focusing on a specific discipline.

The requirements of the minor can be achieved by completing a minimum of 15 hours of credit with the ASI designation. The courses that comprise the minor will be determined by the minor coordinator in the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry. No more than 6 non-KSU transfer credits can be applied towards the minor.

Required courses:
ASI 102: 3 credits
ASI 200 level and above: 5 credits
ASI 400 level and above: 5 credits
ASI electives (100-777 level): 0-2 credit
Total credits needed for ASI minor: 15 credits

This certificate will allow the Animal Sciences and Industry department to better identify, advise, and prepare students for the numerous and various kinds of jobs in the Meat Processing Industry.

Equine Science Certificate

This certificate program is designed to increase the number of potential job opportunities in the equine industry to the student whose curricula does not include equine related courses. The program also provides the opportunity for pre-vet students to increase their equine knowledge and horse handling skills. In addition, it will allow students with horse experience to further enhance their knowledge in equine science for personal enrichment.

Dairy Science Certificate

The dairy science certificate aids students in developing a broad skill set necessary for management roles in the growing dairy industry in Kansas or across the nation. The certificate incorporates numerous active learning opportunities, including dairy judging, research, and internships.
