The Kansas State University Livestock Judging Program has a rich tradition of excellence and has long been recognized as one of the premier collegiate livestock judging programs in the nation. Since its establishment in 1903, the program has earned sixteen national championships, including a record-setting streak of five consecutive national titles from 1994 to 1998 and its most recent championship in 2024.

As members of the Livestock Judging Team, students represent Kansas State University at competitions across the United States. Beyond competition, students develop invaluable skills in critical thinking, analytical decision-making, oral communication, professionalism, and teamwork that prepare them for successful careers throughout the animal agriculture industry. Team members also build lasting relationships with fellow students, alumni, industry leaders, and some of the country's most respected livestock breeders, judges, and producers.

Students interested in competing on the Livestock Judging Team should enroll in ASI 390: Principles of Livestock Selection during the fall semester of their junior year. The course provides the foundation in livestock evaluation and oral reasons necessary for success and serves as the pathway for students wishing to earn a position on one of the nation's most accomplished collegiate livestock judging teams.
