Lane is from Columbus, Nebraska, where he has an extensive cattle background where he grew up on small feedyard that his dad managed, and his family also has Angus cow-calf operation where they host an annual bull sale in Salina March 1. Lane also grew up showing livestock and found a passion for raising show pigs for himself and to sell to other youth exhibitors.

Lane completed his bachelor's in Animal Sciences and Industry at K-State and competed on the Meat and Livestock evaluation teams that helped him discover the opportunities in the Processing and Meat Science industries. Currently, Lane is a first-year masters student under Dr. O'Quinn in meat science where they are focusing efforts on sensory research and paneling. He also currently helps in management of the KSU meats lab. Lane provides leadership to youth meats contests, can help address agent and producer questions, and be involved in presentations and general programming needs focused on carcass and fresh meats.
