Meat Animal Evaluation
The Kansas State University Meat Animal Evaluation Team is recognized as one of the nation's most dominant collegiate programs. K-State has established itself as the standard of excellence in collegiate meat animal evaluation, winning the National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest eight of the last ten years.
The National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest, formerly known as the AKSARBEN Contest, now rotates among host institutions across the country. Widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive and industry-relevant collegiate judging competitions, the contest challenges students to apply knowledge from across the livestock and meat industries through live market animal evaluation, carcass merit prediction, carcass pricing, breeding animal evaluation, and meats judging.
As members of the Meat Animal Evaluation Team, students strengthen their abilities in critical thinking, data-driven decision making, and problem solving while gaining a deeper understanding of the relationships between live animal selection, carcass value, and consumer-driven meat quality.
